12 Scenic and Delicious Stops for Your Maine Road Trip
This post is about Maine.
In my previous post, I walked you through the main destination of our Maine road trip (see what I did there!), but here I’m going to help you map out your stops northbound to your final destination? Our stops in Southern Maine were in Kittery, Kennebunkport, and Portland!
These stops consist of delicious foods to feed the soul and gorgeous lighthouses to feed your Instagram. Let’s get into the 12 stops on your road trip to Maine!
Lil’s Café
Lil’s Cafe, 7 Wallingford Square, Kittery, ME 03904
Lil’s Café is in the cute little town of Kittery! The main event at this café for me was the whoopie pies. Maine is supposedly known for making some of the best, so I knew I had to try some. SOOOOO GOOOOD! If you choose to spend a little more time in the area, definitely grab your coffee and wander through some of the artsy shops across the street.
Maine Squeeze
Maine Squeeze Juice Cafe, 7 Wallingford Square #113, Kittery, ME 03904
Alright, I understand that whoopie pies are not the most nutritional of foods, so we went right across the street to the Maine Squeeze for a healthy smoothie! This was one of those things you didn’t know you needed. When on road trips, you don’t always have the healthiest snacks in mind, so this was the perfect stop for a little extra something.
Nubble Lighthouse – Top 5 Best Maine Lighthouses
Address: Nubble Lighthouse, Sohier Park Rd, York, ME 03909
One of my favorites! Nubble Lighthouse is the first lighthouse of the trip! Although the parking can seem a bit chaotic depending on when you go, the view is totally worth it! There is plenty of space to wander the rocky beach to get your perfect shot.
Mornings in Paris
Mornings in Paris, 21 Western Ave, Kennebunkport, ME 04043
Who doesn’t love a midday chocolate croissant? This adorable Parisian inspired café sits at the end of the street in a beautiful little town called Kennebunkport. These towns are the best part of the journey north because there are so many hidden gems to each of them. Don’t forget to take a stroll up and down the main street to see what else this town has in store.
Rococo’s Ice Cream
Rococo Ice Cream, 6 Spring St, Kennebunkport, ME 04046
Now listen. I have an addiction to ice cream. It’s one of the best foods on this entire planet hands down. So, when I tell you than even after an entire year of ice cream eating, I can still remember this exact ice cream experience, that must mean this place is magical. I got Spicy Rocky Road which was the craziest flavor I think I’ve ever tried. Rocky Road being my favorite flavor, I knew I had to try this strange twist.
Crescent Beach State Park – “Maine” by Noah Kahan
Crescent Beach State Park, 109 Bowery Beach Rd, Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107
This beauty is the perfect autumn stroll on a beach. You do have to pay to enter the park, but I say it’s worth it to have your main character moment. Make sure to dress warmly! It was quite chilly in October.
Flatbread Company
Flatbread Company, 72 Commercial St #5, Portland, ME 04101
Dinner time! Portland, Maine is a fun city that we stayed in for the night before journeying the rest of the way north. Since I am a vegetarian, the famed seafood that Portland is known for was not on my menu for the evening. Instead, we tried out Flatbread Company which was the best decision we ever made. Our waiter was so amazing, and the pizza was exactly what we needed after a long day of snacking and exploring.
Gelato Fiasco
The Gelato Fiasco Old Port, 425 Fore St, Portland, ME 04101
No, there is never too much ice cream. And technically this is gelato, so it’s not the same. Anyways, for dessert we had to-go gelato which was the perfect way to end the day.
Willard Beach – My Favorite Sunset Spot in Maine
Willard Beach, South Portland, ME 04106
Our Airbnb was a short walk from this beach, so we woke to watch the sunrise down the street. We shared this memory with the neighborhood dogs which made the whole morning even better!
Spring Point Lighthouse
Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse, 2 Fort Rd, South Portland, ME 04106
This was probably my favorite lighthouse out of all of them! We got here pretty early in the morning and had the whole place to ourselves. The perfect place to grab some photos or sit with some breakfast before setting out on your next adventure.
Omni’s
Omi’s Coffee Shop, 372 Cottage Rd, South Portland, ME 04106
Now this shop has a very special place in my heart. This is the first place I ever tried a London Fog. If you don’t know what that is, a London Fog is earl grey tea with foamed milk and lavender. In other words, it’s pretty magical. Now I finally understand the obsession you people have with fancy coffee drinks at Starbucks. I have yet to find another place that was able to beat this one. And don’t forget to grab a bagel sandwich to take to your next stop!
Portland Head Lighthouse and Park – Favorite Lighthouse in Maine
Portland Head Light, 12 Captain Strout Cir, Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107
And the final stop before you carry onto your final destination, is the lovely Portland Head Lighthouse. Not only is the lighthouse beautiful, but there is a walkway along the cliffside that gives amazing views of the coastline. Highly recommend taking a stroll.
