2 Must See Towns on Your New England Road Trip: Mystic and Westerly
This post is about Mystic Connecticut and Westerly Rhode Island.
I’m back with some more ideas on places to stop on your Maine road trip! To read about the other road trip stops or about what to do in Acadia and Bar Harbor, check out my recent posts! (Foodie Stops and Acadia and Bar Harbor)
Journeying through Connecticut and Rhode Island, I have two must see towns. In Connecticut we stayed a night in the dreamy town of Mystic where Julia Robert’s Mystic Pizza is actually a real pizza shop in town! Then in Rhode Island, there’s the town of Westerly. A secluded beach town where Taylor Swift’s beach house hides.
Let’s breakdown the different stops in each quaint New England town!
Mystic, Connecticut
Our Airbnb was absolutely adorable, and I highly recommend you check it out. We stayed in a renovated RV with an outdoor shower under the moonlight. Pure. Magic. Only moments from the main street of Mystic, it was an unforgettable stay.
Main street is where all of the action is. There’s the fancy draw bridge you can watch open and close when waterway traffic comes by, you can walk along the scenic water path, and you can spend way too much money on baked goods.
Yes of course. The main lure of this town for my best friend and I was all the delicious food! The two you must check out are of course the famed Mystic Pizza and then the plentiful Sift Bake Shop. We bought the whole place at the bake shop. They have so much to choose from, and they were so wonderful in helping us decide what to choose. And don’t forget to grab yourself a hot apple cider as it is one of the best ones I’ve ever had!
Westerly, Rhode Island
“They picked out a home and called it ‘Holiday House.’” This is a must see location for any Swifties out there. Many will recognize the house from the paparazzi photos of Taylor Swift with friends like Blake Lively or love interests like Tom Hiddleston. It was such a magical experience as Folklore had recently been released, so we could play “Last Great American Dynasty,” the song based on her beach house.
Unfortunately, you cannot get a complete unobstructed view of the house due to privacy reasons, but if you go out onto the beach, you can get a great view. And don’t forget to check out the hotel on the opposite end of the beach. That’s where Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds stay when they come to visit Taylor.
There you have it! Quick stops along the road trip back down south. Of course, you can visit these in any order north or south bound. Hope you enjoyed my autumn adventures, but now it’s time to travel back abroad for Christmas!
