2 Best Amalfi Coast Hikes – Path of the Gods and More
This post is all about the Path of the Gods.
Are you looking for an adventure when visiting the Amalfi Coast? Adding one of these hikes to your trip is the perfect solution!
Having completed both hikes (on the same day!), I am here to rave and rave! The famed Path of the Gods and the not-so-secret Path of the Lemons! Both are spectacular for their own reasons, so I’d suggest not missing out on either.
Here I will guide you through the start and end points, common questions, and what to expect on both the Path of the Gods and the Path of the Lemons.

Path of the Gods – 4.7mi
Many are hesitant to attempt the Path of the Gods. There are reviews out there saying it’s for experienced hikers and many will not be able to complete it.
Well, I’m here to tell you that that is UNTRUE!
It wasn’t entirely challenging for a moderate hiker especially if you stop often to take in the views! The most difficult part is figuring out when to stop walking! We had decided that since Google Maps had a walking route that would take us all the way to Positano, we would just keep walking. Little did we know that that little walking route would turn into another two hours. Of course, it was all downhill and stunning as ever.
Where to Start the Path of the Gods?
You begin the hike in the small village of Bomerano. That is, if you want to do the Path of the Gods the easy way. Starting here, most of the hike is downhill.
Once you take the bus up to Bomerano, you will land in the main piazza. Not only will you see a bunch of hikers headed to the trailhead, but there are also plenty of signs guiding you in the right direction. I also recommend using the corner bar’s restroom before embarking on your adventure.
If you would like an extreme challenge, start in Positano and walk UP! But I’m warning you…it’s a lot of stairs.
Where to End the Path of the Gods?
Nocelle. But continue on and you can walk all the way to the main beach of Positano. That is if you have another two hours of downhill hiking in you. If not, most people end their hike in Nocelle which has a bus to take you down to the main town Positano.
Is It Scary?
If you’re afraid of heights, you might think this hike isn’t right for you. But my mom who is terrified of heights enjoyed the whole experience! Do not expect handrails or fencing. You will be steps away from the cliff edge on some portions of the trail. There were some overlooks off the trail that she didn’t step too close to, but the entire trail was doable for her.
Seriously, you don’t want to miss out on this amazing experience because of your fears.
Fun Stops Along the Way!
You won’t be passing through many towns on this hike, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t places to stop and take a break. My favorite was the little Italian house that sold all things lemon right on the trail! Whether its straight lemon juice, lemonade, or limoncello, they have it all fresh.
Towards the end of the trail there is a restaurant that many hikers frequent. The stunning views while you enjoy some of Italy’s fantastic food is unbeatable to many. However, if you’re on a budget, I suggest packing yourself a lunch and stopping wherever you choose. Because what’s better than free lunch and free views?
Path of the Lemons – 1.6mi
Many may consider this a hidden gem, and I would have to agree! Much different than the famed Path of the Gods, the Path of the Lemons takes you along the coastline and through a unique part of the Amalfi Coast. On your hike you will walk through locals’ backyards and lemon groves! Where Path of the Gods feels magnificent, the Lemon Walk feels secluded and peaceful as you see how the Italian people turned the lemon into a star.
Difficulty Level
This walk is very easy! If you can walk a mile at home, you can do this walk with ease. Path of the Lemons is kid friendly as well. It’s a great one for any age and hiker experience. It’s honestly more of a walk than it is a hike.
Where to Start?
Start in Maiori. You can travel here by bus. There is a direct bus from Amalfi to Maiori, and it’s super simple to navigate especially if you speak to your bus driver ahead of time. You will then use Google Maps to locate the beginning of the trail. Type in Santuario Santa Maria a Mare. This is the closest landmark to the trailhead.
Where to End?
End in Minori. After your little stroll through the lemon groves, you will end in a town called Minori. Minori is a lovely town mostly filled with locals but still caters to visitors. It’s also a great place to reward yourself with an amazing breakfast!
Reward yourself with a lemon delight!
That’s right! Minori is home to the best lemon delights you will find along the Amalfi Coast. Some may call this just a pastry, but I’d call it a mouthwatering breakfast. You cannot leave the Amalfi Coast without trying the lemon delights.
The best place to have the lemon delights is the beachside bakery, Pasticceria Sal De Riso Via Romago. You can take your pastries to go, or you can sit and enjoy the well-deserved view.
Best Time to Walk?
I suggest walking in the morning, and if you’re as lucky as we were, you’ll have the whole walk to yourselves!
Path of the Gods and Path of the Lemons!
Depending on when you start your day, you could complete one or both of these fantastic hikes in one day! We did just that and ended our day with a late lunch in Positano. Of course, if you only have half a day to spare, you could choose just one. I’d suggest the Lemon Walk since it is only about an hour or so.
However, I would say that Path of the Gods truly lives up to the hype. It is one of those memories you won’t forget. You will be so glad you took on the challenge!
