3 Secret Spots in The Last Bookstore You Just Can’t Miss
This post is about The Last Bookstore.
If you have an empty afternoon, The Last Bookstore is definitely the place you should spend it. This two-story bookstore doesn’t just hold thousands of novels, but it is also home to a huge assortment of records and an art gallery on the second floor.
What to Expect in The Last Bookstore
Be prepared because you will lose yourself in the mazes of shelves for a least a few hours. Not only does it have themed genre rooms and hidden nooks and crannies, but the overall atmosphere of the building is comforting yet retro. There is artwork covering every spare inch of wall that isn’t cover by a shelf. From sculptures made from book spines to chandeliers made from magnifying glasses, you’ll find plenty of Instagrammable content wherever you look.
And of course, how could I write about the Last Bookstore and not mention the famed book tunnel! Located on the second floor, you will have the opportunity to live out your lifelong dream of being surrounded by books on all sides! Definitely worth a photo.
Also on the second floor is another fun spot for pictures which I like to call “the book frame”. A perfect location for your latest Instagram post!
Extras!
If I haven’t convinced you already on why you should drive into Downtown LA, then I’d suggest visiting on a Saturday when there is a farmer’s market that shuts down the entire block right outside the bookstore! Grab yourself some produce, a new succulent, or some handmade trinkets. Definitely try to go earlier in the day as soon as it opens, so you aren’t swarmed by the crowds of people sprawled out on the themed stairs for pictures.
Even better, make an entire day of it and walk the short distance to the Grand Central Market for some lunch. You can read my article on how to best the oldest market in LA here.
