3 Magical Walks to Add to Your Wicklow Ireland Road Trip
This post is all about Wicklow Ireland.
If you’re planning a road trip around the beautiful and luscious country of Ireland, you simply cannot miss these amazing sights in Wicklow Ireland.
Wicklow is not only a mountain chain in Ireland but also a National Park! So there is tons of things to see and do in this little slice of the country.
Here are my top three favorite spots to add to your road trip through Wicklow Ireland.
Glendalough
First up is Wicklow National Park of course! No trip to the Wicklow mountains is complete without stopping in the National Park, and the perfect place to start your adventure is at Glendalough.
There is a couple of trails available at Glendalough that will take you through some of the most beautiful woods, but before jumping on a trail, I suggest walking through Glendalough Monastic Settlement.
With great history, scenery, and photography, this section of Glendalough cannot be missed. There’s the main tower and then a huge cemetery with some of the most unique tombstones I’ve ever come across.
Now onto the trails! There are two parking lots at Glendalough, but I suggest parking at the main one right by the Settlement because there are bathrooms and a cute little café. Plus, the other one can get quite crowded with families who want to shorten their walks on the trails.
Glendalough Upper Lake is a must-see spot along the trails in this park. This glacier lake is a popular spot among tourists because of its scenic views and great picnicking opportunities.
Then there is the trail to the Poulanass Waterfall! This is such a fun walk because you can walk right along the little river at certain points. I would say even though this is not the most impressive waterfall on this list, I highly recommend checking it out for the beautiful trail that takes you there.
Ballinastoe Forest Walk (My Favorite in Wicklow Ireland)
This was an Instagram find, but I was so excited to check it out! Ballinastoe Forest is a pine forest that will make you feel like you fell into Lord of the Rings. The boardwalks on the trail add a little more fun to the experience too. We were in a bit of a hurry to get back home for dinner, so we quickly walked to the one photo spot I had seen online and then went back to the parking lot to fly my drone. But the web of trails that takes you further into the forest is meant to be even more magical than the first half mile we trekked. I highly, highly recommend this one!

And if you are driving the full Sally Gap, this is a quick pit spot right along the road to Guinness Lake!
Powerscourt Waterfall ($7)
And finally, we have one of the most insane waterfalls I have ever seen! Sure, it might have been because it was pouring down rain adding tons of water to the already extremely tall waterfall. But it was still one of those memorable experiences we will never forget. My sister describes it as simply magical and mystical.
Not Road Tripping?
If you don’t plan on renting a car while you are visiting Ireland, there are tons of options for tours with transportation! My best advice would be to base yourself in Dublin and take daytrips out of the city to the nearby sights.
When I first visited Ireland, that is exactly what I did. I booked a full day tour from Dublin which included transportation to and from the city.
Wicklow Ireland
There you have it! My top three favorite places to visit in Wicklow Ireland. If you’re planning a road trip or traveling around the Sally Gap, Wicklow should definitely be on your itinerary!
